Vinton Cerf is widely known as the Father of the Internet and a title he certainly deserves. Along with Bob Kahn, Cerf published the papers describing the TCP/IP protocols back in 1974.
Cerf went on to design a working TCP/IP architecture that became the official protocol sutie of the ARPNET in 1982. Without the TCP/IP there would be no Internet.

While working as vice president of MCI Digital Information Services between 1982 and 1986, he headed up the engineering of MCI Mail, the first commercial email service to be connected to the Internet. He was founding president on the Internet Society, and is now chairman on the board. There is little doubt that Cerf is one of the most powerful and influential figures when it comes to the Internet today.
