Blackpool has been a seaside resort ever since the 1800's when people
travelled here to benefit from the sea air. It was a fashionable resort
reserved exclusively for the wealthy until the railway was built in 1846.
People swarmed to Blackpool after this cheap mode of transportation was made
readily available.
Blackpool claims to have everything for holiday
seekers. The town has bowling greens, golf courses, a winter garden, rose
gardens, several piers, amusement arcades, a waxworks and children's
playgrounds. Casinos and live shows provide ample entertainment throughout the
night. Most of these attractions can be found on the seven mile long promenade
where the famous illuminated tram runs. The main attraction in Blackpool is
Pleasure Beach, an amusement park where you can ride on the world's highest
rollercoaster.
Blackpool's greatest landmark
is the Tower. Located right on the beach front, the Blackpool Tower is well
worth the visit. It was built in the 1890's as a replica of the Eiffel Tower.
Beautiful views can be seen from the top of the 518 foot structure. Inside is
an aquarium, a zoo and a circus.
