Marsh Mill was builtin 1794 by Ralph Slater, a Fylde
millwright who also built Pilling and Clifton Mills.
One of the largest
mills in Europe, Marsh Mill standing at a height of 22.8m (70ft) is also
amongst the tallest in the Fylde. Until 1922 Marsh Mill was a working
windmill producing wheatflour for bread, crushed barley for animal feed, rye
flour and oatmeal.
Today Marsh Mill with its machinery restored
and working sails offers the visitors a unique introduction to milling of a
byegone age. Guided tours are available to the top of the mill.
