The story of Fleetwood and Lancashire sea fisheries
For
a very fishy tale visit Fleetwood Museum and see how steam powered trawlers
transformed a dream town into one of Britains most important fishing
ports. See how the Cod Wars and other factors took the large scale
fishing industry away and left Fleetwood looking for other routes to
prosperity.
Before the dawn of the motor car, travel to Fleetwood by
train and ship was popular for holidays and day trips. The town thrived as a
resort and a staging post to the Isle of Man. In the Victorian era the
promenade and pier were thronged with visitors.

Once
in the displays enter the reconstructed salt mine and follow the story of the
local plant of giant ICI from its origins based on the Preesall salt deposits.
See the model docks busy with railway wagons and trawlers everywhere; nearby,
other models show the process of trawling.
